About The Acoustic Binder

The Acoustic Binder got it's beginning as a real entity, a binder with some good acoustic tunes in it. It was a little while before Canada Day 1994 when some friends and I decided we were going to spend Canada Day at the lakefront in Ajax with a few cold ones, fireworks, a flaming hacky-sack and, of course, our acoustic guitars. Someone suggested that it would be good to have a song book with all the songs we usually play, then anyone could sing along. I took it upon myself to come up with this songbook.

At first it was just the lyrics. I had a WordPerfect file on my 8086 that had one song per page. They were printed on a dot-matrix printer. There were about 50 songs at the time. It stayed pretty much that way for a few years. The Acoustic Binder, even in its infancy, accompanied me on any and all camping trips and house parties. It was a great success. In fact, in the spring of 1995, I was picked-up at a house party by a beautiful woman who would later become my wife. She took a liking to me because I played guitar.

I headed off to university in the fall of 1995, taking the Acoustic Binder with me. While there, I got my first look at the internet, and online tabs. Brilliant. During second year, I found out that my school was allowing people to make their own webpages, so I signed up and started to teach myself some html. After a few really horrible webpages that had no point whatsoever (horrible background, blinking texts, too many animated gifs, etc.), I decided that it would be a good idea to put the Acoustic Binder online for anyone who wanted it.

After a few redesigns, you have the online version as it stands today. The real-life version (an actual binder) has recently been moved to a two inch binder and continues to be a source of joy at many campfires and parties. Each page of the binder is in a different state of disarray, depending on it's popularity. Some pages have squashed bugs and beer bottle rings on them.
